Vegan Stem Cells in Skincare

We all have stem cells within our bodies, helping us to heal, with their ability to self-renew and keep growing. Though the most common context we hear about stem cells is in the medical field, for the use of transplants or within IVF treatment, they are becoming more and more popular within the beauty industry  - and with good reason too. At ISUN we have seen the amazing benefits that plant-based stem cells can provide for our skin, which is why we include them in our Phyto-Infusion Serum, helping to create healthier and younger looking skin.

In 2008, stem cells were extracted from a rare Swiss apple and tested in a skincare product. The study found that after two weeks of using a product that contained the apple stem cells, wrinkles were reduced by 8%, and after 4 weeks up to 15%. It is thought that the reason why plant stem cells have these great results within skin care, is that they are able to detect, stop and repair genetic damage in the environment they are in.

Vegan stem cells are the stem cells that are found in plants, specifically in the meristem, which is at the growing tips, roots and shoots, rich in antioxidants. At ISUN we only use stem cells that are extracted from wildcrafted and organic plants and berries, making our product cruelty-free and suitable for vegans.

Our Phyto-Infusion Serum contains stem cells extracted from Lingonberries, a dark red fruit, similar to cranberries, that is most popular in Scandinavia. Plant stem cells obtained from Lingonberry, considered a “superfruit”, are rich in vitamins C, E, and polyphenols which protect and reverse the damaging effects of ultraviolet and infrared radiation. Lingonberry stem cells have been shown to increase Super Oxide Dismutase by 290%, reduce damaging MMP1(enzyme responsible for collagen breakdown) synthesis by 1621%, reduce wrinkles by 37%, reduce oxidative stress by 44%.  These stem cells improve firmness, reduce inflammation and dehydration.

Along with Lingonberry, we also use stem cells extracted from acai berries. These extracts increase ATP synthesis, decrease ageing lines and wrinkles and enhance collagen and elastin. They offer powerful antioxidant protection, natural sun protection and are considered very age-defying. A double benefit of the acai berry is that when eaten they have been proven to have an impact on the regeneration of our own stem cells, making them not only beneficial in our skincare routine but also our overall health and wellbeing.

To pack some extra vegan stem cell punch, Phyto-Infusion Serum also contains citrus stem cells derived from oranges. These stem cells organise and re-densify the dermal structure, restore the extracellular network by improving cellular adhesion and increase fibroblast activity (thereby increasing collagen). The result is the recovery of smooth, youthful skin.
