The Kakadu plum has been used medicinally for thousands of years by the Aborigines - the indigenous people of Australia. Studies show the plum to possess the most vitamin C of any food on earth - 100 times more vitamin C than an orange. It can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and boost the creation of collagen. The gallic acid in the Kakadu plum also works as an astringent, fending off bacteria, virus, and fungi. High levels of vitamins C and E, along with carotenoids and folic acid, aid in lessening puffiness and dark circles of the eye area. Due to high Vit C levels, it can reduce the appearance of dark spots, improving skin discolouration and restore the skin’s natural, even tone.
In nature, resveratrol functions as part of a plant’s defensive arsenal. Resveratrol is an anti-microbial substance produced by plants in response to stress, infection, or strong UV radiation. In recent years, resveratrol has become the subject of intense interest due to its powerful antioxidant and age-defying properties. The antioxidant ability of resveratrol has been shown to be greater than that of vitamins C and E. One study demonstrated that resveratrol was 95% efficient at preventing lipid peroxidation, compared to 65% for vitamin E and 37% for vitamin C.
